Africa-Press – Angola. At least 64 women under 20 years of age were left without a uterus in Angola, from 2021 to 2022, as a result of unsafe (induced) abortions.

The data was advanced this Thursday by the director of the Ferrt Mulher project, Constantina Stella, who did not provide comparative data in relation to previous years.

According to the source, who was speaking to the press, after an audience with the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, his organization carried out a study to assess the impact of induced abortions on this social group.

Constatina Stella advanced that the objective of the project is to bring information to women, to avoid illegal abortions, taking into account the consequences caused.

On the occasion, he informed that the Vice-President of the Republic has embraced the cause and intends to join the project, as one of the institution’s objectives is to bring health to women.

Poorly performed abortions have been the cause of many reproductive health problems in women around the world, leading to the removal of the uterus and other consequences.

Available data indicate that every year, around 55.7 million women have abortions worldwide. And of these, almost half, 25.1 million (45.1%), undergo procedures that are somehow unsafe, the vast majority (97%) in developing or poor countries or those with laws that restrict or prohibit practice.

Scientific investigation

Also this Thursday, the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, received in audience the Angolan scientist and researcher Teresa Matoso, with whom she discussed issues related to scientific research.

At the meeting, the parties discussed the need to create multidisciplinary teams to boost scientific research in Angola.

According to the specialist, Angola should start studying the possibility of opening a pharmaceutical industry, having underlined that all the scientific awards and recognition gained, in two decades of work, are the result of engagement in scientific research.

“All the works I published became known and recognized worldwide”, he concluded.

The engineer is on the list of the best scientists in the world, distinguished by the institution AstraAsia, with the title “Brilliant Minds of Science, Technology and Research in a global dimension”.

PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Newcastle, United Kingdom, since 2008, the scientist is a senior professor of Chemical Engineering at the Instituto Superior Politécnico de Tecnologias e Ciências (ISPTEC).

Teresa Matoso Victor was awarded another prize for her notoriety and is currently one of the national references in the field of science.

His curriculum includes the International Prize for Best Chemical Research and Development of Antibiotics, for Research, Production and Evaluation of two antibiotics from streptomyces coelicolor A3(2), prodigiosin and actinorodin, under solid state fermentation, using a microporous culture.

The same award was granted to him in line with the World Research Council (WRC).
