Africa-Press – Angola. The construction of the Sonangol Research and Development Centre, an infrastructure that provides for the sustainable development of the company and the “oil and gas” and Angolan mining sector, could be completed in September this year.
Under construction in an area of 62 hectares, on the outskirts of the city of Sumbe, Cuanza Sul, the works on the Center have already reached 92% of physical execution, according to the radio program “Ngol” by the national oil company.
The infrastructure will allow for research, specialized training of staff in the areas of oil and gas, mining, renewable energies, with a focus on green hydrogen, biofuels and strategic minerals of the future.
The enclosure was recently visited by the executive director of Sonangol, Joaquim Fernando, who verified the progress of the works.
In a first phase, the Center will start with studies in the areas of geology, geophysics and engineering, giving priority to advanced seismic studies of petroleum systems, laboratories, advanced recovery of hydrocarbons, management and integration of data from the corporate collection.
The archive will also involve the commercial area, within the scope of green hydrogen and the like.
As part of the working visit, Joaquim Fernando considers that the Center will allow for a better framework for structuring the company’s activities from “well to post” with quality, through staff training.
The staff will be trained in the fields of “oil and gas”, energy transition, green hydrogen, as well as the refining and petrochemical process.
With the “giant”, the creation of technical, technological and human resources capable of providing cross-cutting services in the primary, secondary and tertiary production chains is expected.
“The work is going on at a good pace and from the point of view of civil construction we are in the range of 92%, it is expected that this work will be completed in September of the current year”, said the administrator of the national oil company, Joaquim Fernando.
After the completion of the works, the installation of the laboratory systems will follow, which will allow the staff to carry out all the surveys listed above.
Sonangol’s Research and Development Center will support other infrastructures, such as laboratories, administrative area, conference room, residential buildings, warehouses for storing samples, and a Data Center considered to be of high performance.
There is also a clinic, restaurants, commercial bank and other infrastructures for technical support.
