Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen Sacramento Neto, said this Saturday in Menongue that the Cuando Cubango region constitutes the “great reserve of river fishing” in Angola, an available potential to contribute to the diversification of the economy.
The minister justifies the potential, pointing out the 16 mostly navigable rivers, where river fishing can be practiced and promoted, with emphasis on Cubango, Cuando, Cuito, Cuanavale, Cuchi, Cutato, with a range of diverse fish along the water course sweet.
Carmen Sacramento Neto made this point during the meeting she held with members of the provincial government of Cuando Cubango, as part of her visit to Menongue to verify the sector for a few hours.
The minister reiterated that Cuando Cubango represents expansion, in terms of river fishing in the country, and provides animal protein from fish, hence being a large reserve due to the availability of what the rivers offer by their nature.
In view of the available potential, Carmen Sacramento guaranteed to pay greater attention to better management of the rivers for their greater inclusion in the blue economy.

“The Ministry will bring to Cuando Cubango a proposal for ordering this fishery and providing differentiated support to all the communities, which are located along these rivers where artisanal fishing is practiced, within the scope of the policy of encouraging and diversifying the local economy to later be aggregated on a national scale”, he highlighted.
The holder of Fisheries and Marine Resources also admitted that the Larviculture and Fattening Center of Missombo, in the province of Cuando Cubango represents a proposal for food security and the diversification of the economy, depending on the production of existing fish, with the aim of replicating this production. as well as the feed for said fish.

Inaugurated in 2022, it was built in an area of six hectares, comprising three residences for technicians, an office, a reception area, a fish processing room, a manufacturing unit and a production unit.
With 29 employees, the Center is located 15 kilometers south of the city of Menongue, capital of Cuando Cubango, has an annual production capacity of 140 tons of fish, a daily production of 1,750 kilograms of feed made from corn, soy and premix (which is a set of minerals and vitamins essential for the growth and development of fish) for tilapia fingerlings.
