Africa-Press – Angola. The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) seized 170 diamonds of different carats, as part of “Operation X-Ray”.
The information was provided this Saturday by the Institutional Communication and Press technician of the Provincial Command of the National Police, Alexandre Pereira, stressing that the diamonds were seized in the municipalities of Chitato, Cambulo and Lucapa.
26 motorcycle bombs were also seized, as well as the same number of mine bars, among other means used for the illicit exploitation of diamonds.
He made it known that the diamonds were in the possession of a group of individuals who were illegally exploiting the strategic mineral.
He said that in the same operation, 7,750 liters of smuggled fuel were seized, destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The operation, which is still ongoing, also resulted in the arrest of 589 immigrants from the DRC for attempting to enter the country illegally.
The official adds that the immigrants, after administrative procedures, were repatriated in the country of origin.
