Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan swimmer N’hara Fernandes reached the minimum mark that qualifies her to represent Angola at the Olympic Games, in the French city of Paris, in 2024, by completing 631 FINA points.
The 16-year-old athlete reached the score in the National Open Swimming Championship of Portugal in juveniles, juniors and seniors, qualifying for next year’s multidisciplinary event, by clocking a time of 27.59 in the 50m freestyle event.
This mark, beaten on July 29th, according to an official note made available to ANGOP this Monday, constitutes a junior and absolute record and breaks the two previous records of 28.12 and 27.68 belonging to Catarina Sousa.
Thus, N’hara Fernandes competes for the only female vacancy for the national representation in the Paris Olympics, with the experienced Lia Lima and Maria Freitas
N’hara Fernandes has shown great progress in sports performance, at a time when he is fulfilling an Olympic scholarship through the Angolan Swimming Federation (FAN), started in South Africa and now in Portugal.
At national level, the athlete, formed by the Clube Náutico da Ilha de Luanda, holds several youth gold medals and national records.
It was influential for the second place conquered by Angola in the African Championship of Zone IV, disputed this year in the country, with a total of 74 medals.
In that event, held at the Alvalade Pool, N’hara contributed with three individual medals, one silver in the 50m breaststroke (37.02), two bronze in the 50m freestyle (29.62) and 100m breaststroke (1:23.33), in addition to the participations in collective medals.
N’hara will also participate in the Junior World Championship that will take place in the city of Netanya (Israel), from September 4th to 10th together with Nyriam Morais, Carlota Silva Stephanie Jurado and Jasmine Lourenço (female).
In the same competition, in men, follow Yusseni Furtado, Enzo Anjos, José Cochofel, David Padre, Janel Tati.
