Africa-Press – Angola. With a squad that is 47 percent renewed, Desportivo da Huíla opened its “workshops” for the 2023/24 season at the Ferroviário stadium, in Lubango, Monday, under the leadership of Portuguese Paulo Torres.
The group is still incomplete, as some players are still undergoing medical tests, which must be completed by Wednesday.
From last season, 14 players left and 13 came in in the opposite direction. Among the departures stand out Tony Cabaça, Nandinho, Lionel Liombi, Adó Pena and the veteran Sidney, who hung up his boots, while for the entries the reference goes to Karanga and the forward Zambian Aliel Barry.
According to the managing director of the Club, the pre-season will be entirely carried out in Lubango, where a tournament is planned, with a view to giving rhythm to the team, with ongoing contacts with some teams for the event.
He said that due to the FAF technical council’s decision to change the start date of Girabola, Desportivo da Huíla had to readjust its preparation program, but that all the conditions are being provided so that nothing is missing.
Of the new acquisitions are striker Aliel Barry, 21 years old, ex-Bailo-Bah da Zambia, central midfielder, Madol Jarju (21) and left-back João Mucuria (24), both from Serpa de Portugal, midfielders Valdemar António , 31, (former Desportivo da Luanda), Amilton Lucamba (26) and António Kassueca Nguala (20), former Sporting de Cabinda, as well as Domingos Mateus (24), António Pessela (25), both from Académica do Lobito .
Completing the group of rookies are defenders Jorge Mendes (31), formerly from Académica do Lobito, Mamadu (23) and Malamba (21), from Sagrada Esperança, as well as goalkeeper Teodoro Rita Tchissuingui (23), the full-back Karanga and central midfielder Santos Kyaku (22), requested from Petro de Luanda and Lundas do Norte, respectively.
In the past Girabola, they occupied 10th place with 33 points, having fallen in the semi-finals of the Angola Cup at the feet of Académica do Lobito.
Founded on March 7, 1998, by General Francisco Furtado, Desportivo da Huíla has in its gallery an Angola Super Cup, won in September 2022, in Huambo, against Petro de Luanda.
