Africa-Press – Angola. The second provincial secretary of the MPLA in Zaire, Garcia Viera, highlighted, this Monday, in Mbanza Kongo, the role of women in building and preserving peace and democracy.

Speaking at the OMA provincial act, alluding to African Women’s Day, 31 July, the official highlighted the achievements of Angolan women in maintaining social and family stability.

She appealed to the women of OMA to continue to support the President of the MPLA and the Republic, João Lourenço, in his efforts towards the country’s development and social progress.

He recommended investment in academic and technical-professional training, as well as actions aimed at raising patriotism and exercising citizenship.

The official said he was concerned about social peace, prostitution and juvenile delinquency, urging the reinforcement of family skills in the moral and civic education of members of this basic nucleus of society.

Participants in the act were treated to a lecture that addressed three topics, namely “the reorganization and reconversion of commerce in Angola, street commerce and its impact on the lives of families, as well as the role of women in building and preserving peace”.

Family Sector bets on rescuing moral and civic values

​​Meanwhile, the director of the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Equality in Zaire, Luísa Sofia Gomes, pointed out, this Monday, the rescue of moral and civic values ​​within of families as one of the main bets of the sector.

Speaking at the provincial act commemorating the African Women’s Day, 31 July, the official said that there was a marked degradation of morality and civility in the region as a result of the consumption of distorted information disseminated on social networks.

He informed that his sector in the region is working to invert this situation, with the promotion of lectures addressing specific themes aimed at rescuing good habits and customs in schools, churches and other places of greater population agglomeration.

Another challenge pointed out has to do with the parity between men and women in management and leadership positions in the province, a desideratum that his sector intends to achieve gradually, which is why he appealed for determination, commitment and a spirit of dedication to work from this fringe of society,

He considered the African woman as one of the indispensable pillars for the continuous growth of the black continent, playing an important role in the development of nations.

The act was also marked by the holding of a lecture on the theme “contribution of women to the socio-economic and political development of the province”.

The 31st of July was established as African Women’s Day in 1962, at the Conference of African Women, held in the city of Dar-es-Salam (Tanzania), with the aim of sharing experiences and efforts for the emancipation of women on the black continent.
