Africa-Press – Angola. The requalification works in the city of Sumbe, Cuanza Sul province, are at a physical completion of around 65 percent, said Tuesday the director of the Provincial Infrastructure Office, Abel Vasco Caliata.
According to the official, who was speaking to the press at the end of the visit by the provincial governor, Job Capapinha, the works are running smoothly and correspond to the parameters subscribed to in the contracts.
“The works are proceeding at a good pace. At the moment, the company carrying out the work is laying the sewerage network in the main streets and the earthworks, to later complete the asphalting of the roads. We are confident that the project will be completed within the agreed period”, he stressed.
However, he referred that it was recommended to the contractor to finish the slopes of Rua da Liberdade, concerning the conclusion of the sidewalks, in order to allow the movement of people and goods without constraints.
Meanwhile, with the aim of ensuring greater fluidity to traffic, in the city of Sumbe, the street of the Second National Liberation War was opened, on National Road (EN) 100.
Budgeted at over US$460 million, the Sumbe Integrated Infrastructure Development Project includes the construction of 1,816 homes (1,260 T2 and 556 T3), the rehabilitation of the city’s technical networks (water, energy, waste treatment facilities and footpaths) and the strengthening of unstable slopes, where hundreds of people currently live.
In charge of the contractor China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC), the program includes drainage works, reconstruction of 13 kilometers of streets, renovation of public lighting and telecommunications networks.
