Commander wants reinforcement in the fight against border crimes

Africa-Press – Angola. The commander of the 2nd Unit of the Border Guard Police (PGF), in the municipality of Soyo, province of Zaire, deputy commissioner Pedro Teixeira, asked, this Tuesday, for reinforcement in the fight against crimes that occur along the border with DRC.

The corporation official was speaking at the opening ceremony of the commemorative day of the 45th anniversary of the existence of this body assigned to the Ministry of the Interior, to be marked on the 26th of this month, in the country.

Pedro Teixeira reiterated the need to redouble inspection, control and surveillance actions at the border, with a view to discouraging fuel smuggling, illegal immigration and the devastation of flora and fauna.

To carry out this mission, the person in charge demanded discipline, audacity, persistence and a sense of patriotism.

He recognized that the province of Zaire, as a result of its geographic complexity, has been the springboard for the embezzlement and smuggling of various products to the DRC.

“We are aware of the difficulties we are going through, in terms of means of support for operational services, but it is in the difficulties that initiatives stand out”, he asserted.

In addition to land resources, the 2nd Unit of the Border Guard Police has nautical resources, which allow patrolling along the river border (Zaire River) with the DRC.

It also has modern equipment and technological devices for day and night surveillance along the border, observation posts, unmanned aerial means such as drones, among others.

The 3rd Border Guard Police Unit is located in the village of Mbanza Mazina, on the outskirts of the city of Mbanza Kongo.

He reported that following these crimes, two thousand presumed perpetrators of fuel smuggling were arrested, both nationals and foreigners.

He pointed out the border of Luvo, in the municipality of Mbanza Kongo, as the most prone in terms of fuel smuggling to the neighboring country.

“We have to be always attentive and vigilant to oppose the increasingly sophisticated methods that smugglers and illegal immigrants use to pursue their objectives”, he underlined.

This year, the event is celebrated under the motto: “Guardians of the Angolan State Border, Vigilant, Audacious and Always Persistent.
