SIC wants more reporting of cases of human trafficking

Africa-Press – Angola. The person in charge of the Information and Analysis department of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Cunene, inspector Beloune Carlos, on Tuesday encouraged citizens to report suspected cases of human trafficking to the Police.

Speaking within the framework of the commemorative days of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, celebrated on July 30, Beloune Carlos said that it is important to ask for the intervention of the Police whenever “they notice adults traveling with children, whose speech is questionable “.

He explained that it is considered human trafficking when the victim is removed from his environment and subjected to cheap labor, sexual and drug exploitation.

“We do not have a record of many cases in the province, although in our view most cases escape police surveillance, hence the need to alert us when these situations arise”, he said.

He made it known that in the first half of this year two cases were registered, one less compared to the same period in the previous year, involving two detained nationals.

He recalled that it was possible to recover four minors from seven to 15 years old, three in the municipality of Ombadja, when they intended to board a vehicle towards the Republic of Namibia, and another in Namacunde, with the same destination.

Beloune Carlos specified a case that occurred in 2022 involving 24 citizens removed from Cunene to Luanda in order to work in a company, but the conditions were precarious, which led to classifying it as human trafficking.

The World Day against Trafficking in Persons is celebrated annually on the 30th of July, and is an opportunity to reflect on the need to put an end to human exploitation and help those who have been victims to rebuild their lives.
