Africa-Press – Angola. The auction of 34 vehicles seized in the process of recovering state assets, held this Sunday, raised 1.7 billion kwanzas (Kz) – twice the expected amount (Kz 771.6 million).
The sale, carried out over the internet through the General Tax Administration (AGT) platform, saw the participation of 1,980 people and 568 bids, said the director of the National Service for the Recovery of State Assets, Eduarda Rodrigues.
According to Eduarda Rodrigues, the amounts resulting from these sales will be in the custody of the State, specifically at the National Bank of Angola, until the end of the process, in accordance with article 233 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
When providing the information, the official said that many question the anticipated sale of assets seized before the process comes to an end, however, he replied that the law allows it (Article 233 of the Code of Criminal Procedure).
He also explained that if, at the end of the proceedings, the defendant is sentenced to the loss of these assets in favor of the State, the value resulting from the sale of these vehicles will immediately revert to the State and, if they are acquitted, the said amounts must be handed over to the defendants themselves.
The auction of vehicles and boats is taking place at public auction, on the electronic platform of the General Tax Administration (AGT) www.leilão.agt.minfin.gov.ao, where thousands of taxpayers who can compete in the purchase are registered.
The second phase will take place next Sunday, the 13th of August, with another 33 cars and three boats being auctioned.
On the 20th of August, 42 vehicles will be auctioned, for the fulfillment of the last stage – the third.
During the process, the AGT system will determine the winners automatically without any human intervention.
The lot winners will have two days to make the payment, under penalty of going to the second place and, successively, to the fourth place.
In total, there are 108 vehicles and three boats seized, within the scope of the judicially authorized asset recovery processes, which are being auctioned to prevent the deterioration of said means.
