Africa-Press – Angola. The Human Rights committees are a vital factor for the pursuit of consolidation of the rule of law and democracy, said Tuesday, the delegate for Justice and Human Rights in Huambo, Alfredo Felo Sachiliva.
The official, who was speaking at the 1st Provincial Conference of local Human Rights committees, highlighted the importance of these bodies in disseminating and protecting the fundamental rights of citizens, enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Angola.
He recalled that these bodies were instituted to enable the implementation of the execution plan of the national strategy of human rights and other policies of promotion, defense and protection of the citizen, in the perspective of territorial circumscription, in the provincial and communal scope.
In Huambo province, according to the official, the body was set up in 2016, within the framework of the Human Rights Days, with a total of 23 members, whose action extends to the 11 municipalities that make up this region of the Central Plateau.
Without needing statistical data, the official informed that the number of complaints, in relation to previous years, tends to rise, hence the need for greater demand and preparation of the members, in order to be able to respond in a timely manner to the concerns of the citizen.
He indicated that good service to the public, with emphasis on the provincial headquarters, has been an increasingly evident fact, as a result of actions on human rights that have been developed by this body and partners.
In turn, the King of Huambo, Artur Moço, pointed out the poor state of access roads, the lack of potable water and electricity, difficult access to education and health, as one of the main violations of human rights that still affect rural communities.
Despite this, he highlighted the government’s engagement in solving these problems, taking into account the fulfillment of human rights and the well-being of communities.
