Africa-Press – Angola. The municipality of Ombadja, in the province of Cunene, has a judo centre, created this month, as part of the massification of the sport, from beginners, juniors and seniors.

At this point, judo is already practiced in three municipalities in the province, namely Cuanhama, Namacunde and Ombadja, with only Curoca, Cuvelai and Cahama missing.

The information was given, (Wednesday, by the secretary general of the Cunene Judo Association, Celestino Brandão, referring that they are looking for support for the other municipalities, later this year.

He explained that they already have a guarantee from the Angolan Judo Federation, about the arrival in the coming days of some materials, such as the “mats”, which are used worldwide, in the practice of this sport.

He added that judo is developing and becoming more inclusive and participatory in the province, with the involvement of 256 judokas in the beginners’ and senior levels.

The official made it known that the provincial championship for cadets, juniors and seniors is scheduled to take place from the 26th to the 27th of August, in the city of Ondjiva.

He clarified that the winners of each category will qualify directly for the national judo championships, to be held in the provinces of Uíge and Malange, in September and October.

Judo is a fighting modality, whose main objectives are to strengthen the body, mind and spirit in an integrated way, in addition to developing self-defense techniques.

The Cunene Provincial Judo Association controls seven schools and a club, as well as 256 practitioners, in the municipalities of Cuanhama, Ombadja and Namacunde.
