Africa-Press – Angola. The youth of the 7th Day Adventist Church was called Sunday, to redouble the carrying out of social actions, in order to impact their role, as Christians, in the challenges of promoting the development of communities.
The warning was given by the president of the Annual Congress of Spiritual Revival, Azenildo Catumbela, on the sidelines of the event, held at the Lossambo Educational Center of the 7th Day Adventist Church
. young people for greater participation in social actions, such as cleaning campaigns, blood donation, basic goods to the most disadvantaged, holding fairs dedicated to health and entrepreneurship, aiming at their contribution to the development of communities, in the face of current challenges .
“Young people have carried out various social and philanthropic actions, but, in numerical terms, as time passes and the challenges and difficulties increase, more is needed, in order to impact these actions, as followers of Christ, in communities where the church is located, both in the neighborhoods and in the municipalities”, he said.
In this way, Azenildo Catumbela said that the church intends to make the population feel the impact of the work focused on responding to their concerns, both those presented by the government and by youth associations, which, in turn, should be more active in all social areas.
The official justified the appeal by considering the participation of young Adventists in social actions as another way of witnessing to Christ, making solidarity the fundamental point among humans, “as God loved the world, to the point of giving his son to save him”.
Therefore, he made it known that the Spiritual Congress had as its main point the moralization of youth, awareness of their responsibility not only in divine tasks, but also in the importance of participating in social life.
Still during the event, which was attended by all the faithful of that church, a total of 120 congressmen, he said that other topics related to the spiritual life, doctrine of the religious congregation, in-depth study of the Bible, as well as the aspects of the insertion of members in society.
The same was marked with the baptism of 16 members and the dedication of some new faithful.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church is one of the oldest legally operating religious denominations in the country.
The first contact of the 7th-Day Adventist movement in Angola was established in 1922 by Pastor William Harry Anderson, nicknamed “Kakongo” in Angola, American by nationality, but born in Mexico in 1871.
Coming from Namibia, he made an exploratory trip, with the aim of studying the possibilities of establishing the church in the country, at the request of the Division Annual Committee (1922) chaired by Pastor H. Branson, thus following in the footsteps of John N. Andrews the first overseas missionary.
