Africa-Press – Angola. The Huila business group OMATAPALO is investing more than US$3 million to set up an industrial slaughterhouse in the municipality of Humpata, Huíla province, with capacity to slaughter 35 heads/day, whose completion is scheduled for December this year.

This is the former Jamba Farm slaughterhouse, installed in an area of ​​40 hectares and acquired by the business group in order to expand the supply of the final product in the country, a structure that forms part of the agribusiness project, managed by the limited liability company of Mumba, which has the farm with the same name, carved in the production of animal protein.

The information was provided Monday, by the spokesman for the business group, Edmar Manuel, referring that the slaughter of 35 heads per day represents 7.8 tons of meat, in a project that will employ more than 50 workers, whose functionality is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.

He referred that previously the slaughterhouse slaughtered a quarter of the capacity it will now have, as in addition to quantity, the expansion of production and processing capacity will act in accordance with international quality, hygiene and safety requirements.

The advisor to the Board of Directors of OMATAPALO detailed that the ongoing rehabilitation works provide for the modernization of the slaughterhouse with cutting-edge technology, covering, in particular, all stages, from reception, slaughter of the animal, cutting and packaging, all parameterized.

The focus, according to the source, is to increase the product’s supply capacity in the country and the surplus to compete later in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) market to be competitive in regional trade and in the medium or long term in Europe.

“We are going to do everything in stages. Meat certification is already done even when the beef is marketed locally because of quality and safety, a process that is already advanced and our slaughterhouse has been reviewed by specialists and the issue of the quality of the finished product is foreseen”, he continued.

In addition to cattle, Edmar Manuel said that the slaughter of pigs and goats was planned, as the old structure already acted in that line.

He made it known that the farm has a stock of eight thousand head, in a production of 500 tons/year of meat, which in addition to this produces corn, wheat, beans and soy in fulfillment of his project.

The farm also has a butchery in operation in Lubango, since April of the current year.
