Africa-Press – Angola. Fifty-one “special cases” were identified in the commune of Naulila, province of Cunene, during the operations of the Pilot Census/2023, which runs since 19 July last, in seven provinces of the country.
The information was provided this Monday by the director general of the National Statistics Institute, José Calenji, stressing that the special cases refer to homeless, migratory people, collective institutions, health centres, police and military posts.
He said that at the level of Cunene province, the communes of Naulila (Ombadja) and Mukulongodjo (Cuvelai) were selected for the pilot census, which so far has not reported a case of this type.
Speaking at the courtesy meeting with the governor of Cunene, the technical coordinator of the Pilot Census, clarified that special cases require some authorization and special care, so that technicians can carry out the collection of information.
José Calenji said that the pilot census will make it possible to test all available instruments, from a questionnaire to logistics, administrative support so that the province is better structured with a view to supporting the general census.
At this stage, he added, a test of the operational conditions will be carried out, in order to assess the level of readiness of the personnel and of all the procedures associated with the operational, logistical, technical and organizational implementation, for the success of the general census to take place in 2024.
“The country is preparing to carry out the general population census in July 2024 and for this major operation to achieve its objectives, preparation is necessary through cartographic updating at the level of the seven provinces selected for the pilot census”, he emphasized.
On her turn, the governor of Cunene, Gerdina Didalelwa, expressed the willingness of the provincial government to support the necessary actions, so that the planned activities are successful.
The official praised the carrying out of the general population census, so that the Executive can better plan and manage the available resources in favor of the well-being of the populations.
For the Pilot Census/2023 operations, in the province of Cunene, 70 census takers are available, of which 53 are in Naulila and 17 are in Mukulongodjo.
In addition to the census takers, the process has a provincial technical assistant, two municipal assistants and an equal number of communal assistants, as well as nine locations in the selected areas.
The aforementioned statistical operation will take place over a period of one month in seven provinces, namely Bengo, Bié, Cuando Cubango, Cunene, Luanda, Lunda Norte and Uíge and 14 previously selected municipalities.
