Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA Parliamentary Group reaffirmed, this Monday, its commitment to stability, development, the well-being of Angolans, with peace, reconciliation, forgiveness, tolerance and respect for difference.
“It’s time to tell all compatriots who truly want to make a country, let’s join hands, work together, because in this way, and only in this way, better days will come for all of us”, said the leader of the MPLA Parliamentary Group, Virgílio de Fontes Pereira, in Parliament.
The deputy was speaking during the 8th Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the 1st Legislative Session of the V Legislature, which approved, in general, the Proposal for a Law to amend the Value Added Tax Code (VAT) and, in general, the Statute of Former Presidents and Vice Presidents of the Republic.
In the Political Declaration, the parliamentarian said that, “at a time when we need to be focused and united in resolving the difficulties we face, our opponents prioritize a narcissistic agenda and greed for power, disregarding the most important thing, such as the capacity for repentance and asking for forgiveness for the mistakes committed”.
He understands that this “is the true essence of political parties, which, believing in witches, also believe that freedom and democracy are incompatible with humility, stability, respect, peace, reconciliation with the past and history”.
Support for the President of the Republic
Virgílio de Fontes Pereira reaffirmed, before the Plenary, the unconditional support of the MPLA Parliamentary Group to the President of the Republic, in reaction to a claim by UNITA to formalize a process of dismissal of the Holder of Executive Power, in the hemicycle.
“The MPLA Parliamentary Group reaffirms, here and now, its unconditional support for President João Lourenço and declares loud and clear, there will be no dismissal of the President of the Republic democratically elected by the majority of Angolans (…)”, he stressed.
For the MPLA deputy, “a party that has destruction and conspiracy as party options, it is obvious that it has no vocation to exercise power”.
The politician accused UNITA of resorting to all kinds of expedients, including slandering the country abroad, with international institutions, in a vain attempt to tarnish the image of Angola, its President and its Executive, to harm its projection, for whom this attitude “well configures the wolf disguised in sheep’s clothing”.
He added that the way in which some prefer, in an outrageous way, to destroy what was built with a lot of sacrifice, “denotes irresponsibility, immaturity and recklessness, which can only be generated by judgments shaped by extreme greed and anxiety for the moment that has not arrived”.
employment for young people
According to the politician, the MPLA will continue to defend, with the Executive, the creation of new employment and business opportunities for young people, the right to education and teaching, culture, recreation and sport, contributing to their stability as well as for the crystallization of his will and joy in life.
He appealed to this section of the population not to “fall into the hands of those who, with false promises and cunning speeches, taking advantage of the difficulties with which they live, instrumentalize them to achieve their objectives”.
The MPLA elected the deepening of democracy, the timing and institutionalization of the Municipalities, the economic development model, without prejudice to the ideological conceptions of each citizen or political party, the social model, in particular education and health services in a distribution perspective territory and as factors of national cohesion and social stabilization.
“These are just a few examples of topics that can be discussed as “major national themes” and that can help, with their conclusions, to enrich the content of the Long-Term Strategy – Angola 2050″, said Virgílio Fontes Pereira.
Meanwhile, in its Political Declaration, UNITA, in the voice of deputy Liberty Chiaka, began by recognizing the motivational incentive of the President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, for a balanced, cordial leadership and, in essence, promoter of consensus in the parliamentary year that ends.
He then wove harsh criticisms of government policies, for whom “the Executive has not been able to find a lasting solution that brings stability to interest rates, the exchange rate and the inflation rate”.
With a harsh enough tone, the leader of the UNITA parliamentary group once again insisted, before the hemicycle, on the process of dismissing the President of the Republic, considering such assumption “an act of political maturity and patriotic courage”.
The leader of the UNITA parliamentary group demanded, at the time, an audit of the Integrated Financial Management System (SIGFE), the public debt, the General Tax Administration (AGT) and the sale process of the Bank of Commerce and Industry (BCI).
On the other hand, deputy Benedito Daniel, from the Joint Parliamentary Group PRS/FNLA, welcomed the scheduling of the discussion and vote, in general, on the Proposal to amend the Value Added Tax (VAT).
In his view, if, on the one hand, VAT has come to be considered the most significant non-oil tax item, on the other hand, it has systematically undergone changes “due to the fact that it does not reconcile the proposed objectives of revenue collection with the compensation of citizens who expected from him for increased revenues.
He noted that one of the main battles of the Executive has to do with restoring the purchasing power of Angolans, overcoming social deficits in terms of access to public goods and services.
For him, it is the Executive that must provide and ensure, through supervision, the central regulation essential to commercial exchanges based on price competition.
The president of the PHA, Florbela Malaquias, highlighted the leadership power of women in the National Assembly, which currently comprises 38.8 percent of the parliamentary universe, whose leadership is also in charge of a woman.
