Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, arrived this Sunday morning, in São Tomé and Príncipe, to participate in the XIV Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) .

During the Summit, the Angolan statesman will hand over the rotating presidency of the organisation, which lasts for a period of two years, to his counterpart from São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova.

The meeting’s program foresees an intervention by the Angolan Head of State, after the welcome speech by the host, Carlos Vila Nova.

As part of the Summit, João Lourenço should be distinguished with the José Aparecido de Oliveira prize, which honors personalities and institutions that stand out in defending and promoting the principles and values ​​of the CPLP.

This is a distinction instituted in 2011 and biennial in nature.

The Summit’s agenda also foresees the presentation of “Priorities of the mandate of São Tomé and Príncipe for the period 2023-2025” and a political debate on “Youth and sustainability in the CPLP”, the latter being the theme of the mandate of São Tomé and Príncipe Prince.

The conclave should also debate the reappointment of the CPLP executive secretary, Zacarias da Costa.

The Summit of Heads of State and Government is the highest body of the CPLP.

Its responsibilities are to define and guide the organization’s general policy and strategies.

The organization, founded on July 17, 1996, includes Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor.
