Africa-Press – Angola. The beneficiaries of the “Kwenda” Social Monetary Transfer program, in the municipality of Caungula, northern Lunda Norte province, promised this Sunday to invest the money in family farming and trade, with a view to multiplying the values.

For the municipality of Caungula, the Institute of Local Development (FAS) has available 603 million and 306 thousand for the 9,141 registered vulnerable families.

Each household in the 250 planned neighbourhoods, in the communes of Camaxilo and Caungula, began to receive, as of this Sunday, 66,000 kwanzas for six months, at the rate of Kz 11,000/month.

The beneficiary Issolo Massoji, 48 years old, mother of nine children, said that with the 66,000 kwanzas she will increase the production of homemade cakes and stop joining another producer for the acquisition of wheat.

“I sell homemade cakes and to get wheat I have to raise money with another seller, but with this amount I will be able to buy a bag of wheat alone, which is worth 28,000 kwanzas and multiply my production”, he said.

Beneficiary Domingas Mário, 53 years old, mother of six children, seller of African fabric (cloth), said she will use the money to increase the business and multiply profits.

Beneficiary Antónia Txizazi, 74 years old, said he would buy more cassava, maize and banana seeds to increase his production.

In turn, the beneficiary Cassange Xandjimbo, 60 years old, said that he will, with the money from Kwenda, purchase adobes for the construction of a precarious residence.

In addition to Caungula, 45 thousand and 342 vulnerable families, from the municipalities of Cuango and Cambulo, have already benefited from the cash transfers, with the Government having made available 2 billion, 897 million and 386 thousand kwanzas.

It has funding of USD 320 million from the World Bank (BM) and USD 100 million from the National Treasury (Angola), totaling USD 420 million.

The Program is operated by the Local Development Institute (FAS), a governmental agency that, in coordination with other anti-poverty programs, contributes to promoting the sustainable development of communities.
