Technicians address revitalization of iron and ornamental stone transport in the South Corridor

Africa-Press – Angola. Staff from the Ministry of Transport are, since Monday, at a forum, in Lubango, Huíla province, to discuss the revitalization of the process of transporting and exporting iron ore and ornamental stones from southern Angola.

Under the motto: simplify to better export towards the diversification of the economy, the day, in addition to staff from the supervisory department, brings together authorities from Huíla, Namibe and Cuando Cubango.

The Journey to Revitalize the Transport and Export Process of Iron Ore and Ornamental Stones in Southern Angola is a forum on which companies operating in the Southern Corridor of Angola, mainly in the mining, rail-port and logistics sectors .

The aim, according to the event’s program sent, is to identify the main challenges and measures aimed at boosting the process of transporting and exporting these raw materials, with a view to improving the current business environment in the region.

In this event, according to the program, focus will be given to the Minas Gerais industry segment, which in recent years has dominated around 90% of the goods handled in the Southern Corridor, in terms of exports, with a performance in the country’s trade balance and contributes to a substantial part to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), given the number of jobs it generates.

In a message about the event, the Ministry of Transport stresses that the Journey aims to stimulate the business environment in the southern region of Angola in the ornamental stone and iron ore segment, through an open dialogue on the measures that may eventually simplify the process in chain and therefore increase exports.

The Transport, Finance, Mining Resources and Oil, Industry and Commerce sectors are present, as well as professionals working in the Port, Logistics, Transport and Mining Exploration sectors.

The discussion on the projects being implemented in the logistics, port and mining sector, with the aim of promoting the business environment in the region, comprehensively assessing the productive potential of companies operating in the ornamental stone and mining sector, as well as opening new areas of cooperation and networking with potential partners, are the main subjects scheduled for the event that ends on Wednesday.

With the presence of Minister Ricardo de Abreu, the program began on Sunday with a visit to the implementation areas of the Integrated Project for the Development of Moçâmedes Bay and CFM Railway Infrastructure, Saco-Mar Mining Terminal, trips to granite in Huíla, as well as Companhia Siderúrgica do Cuchi.
