Deputy governor reiterates commitment to inclusion of the most vulnerable

Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor of Cuando Cubango for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Helena Chimena, reiterated Monday, in Menongue, the government’s commitment to promoting social inclusion actions and assistance to vulnerable people.

Helena Chimena reassumed this commitment at the Provincial Social Action Conference, held under the motto “Let us reinforce the integrated intervention of social action, aiming at improving the quality of life of Angolans”.

On the occasion, the deputy governor highlighted that the Angolan Government, committed to the cause of social protection and with a view to establishing more inclusive policies, rectified, through its competent bodies, all international charters and conventions on social protection.

He recalled that the objective of social assistance is to guarantee the protection of citizens without distinction, aiming to support individuals, families and communities to deal with their various daily difficulties, through services, benefits and appropriate programs.

Helena Chimena revealed that, since 2013, after the holding of the first national conference, the government has experimented with various programmes, actions and strategies whose purpose is focused on the integration and inclusive social assistance of Angolans.

“There are remarkable records and encouraging results from the various ongoing programs, with results that contribute to the inclusion and eradication of extreme poverty, with emphasis on the Integrated Program for Local Development and Combating Poverty, which has contributed to the productive inclusion of former soldiers, empowerment of women and promotion of self-employment”, he pointed out.

The official recognized that there is still a lot of work to do to achieve the desired levels of intervention and social protection, therefore calling on all social actors to join synergies so that they can intervene in the short, medium and long term in the hard work of eradication of poverty.

The event, which brought together members of the Government of Cuando Cubango, defence, security and internal order bodies, traditional authorities and religious leaders, analysed, among other issues, the current situation of social protection of vulnerable people and the promotion of social action.
