Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, discussed this Tuesday, in Luanda, with the president of the Pan-African Women’s Organization (OPM), Eunice Lipinge, issues related to the challenges of women in Africa.
Speaking to the press, at the end of a courtesy meeting, the president of OPM pointed out that access to land, education or training and financing are the main challenges faced by African women.
He thanked the support provided by Angola, which will host, next Thursday, the first regional conference on climate change under the motto “the resilience of African women: the contribution to the agriculture sector to adapt to climate change”, in an initiative of the General Secretariat of the OPM.
“We are here to thank you for the support provided around the organization that I lead. My organization is in charge of issues related to the promotion of women and women’s empowerment, important aspects for the development of Africa”, she said.
The conference will take place at the Armed Forces Museum, with the participation of the Vice-President of the Republic.
OPM Secretary General, Grace Kabayo, and OPM Regional Secretary for Southern Africa, Luzia Inglês Van-Dúnem, participated in the meeting.
The Pan-African Women’s Organization integrates 55 countries on the continent, has worked with the African Union, thus influencing the implementation of the status of women on the continent and the Maputo Protocol, which deals with women’s empowerment.
Among other actions, OPM proposes to support African women victims of political conflicts, to ensure the defense and protection of girls and victims of terrorism and armed conflicts.
