Africa-Press – Angola. The Lubango District Court began, this Wednesday, in Lubango, the trial of a physical education teacher, accused of sexual abuse of a minor under 16 years old, his student.
This is a 33-year-old citizen, a teacher posted at school complex number 75, located in the Mutundo area, municipality of Lubango, and also an international assistant football referee.
The accused was arrested in April, in the Nambambe neighborhood, after a complaint filed by the teenager’s family, when they realized that she had gone away from her parents’ residence to the teacher’s house where she was only found the following day.
The case’s judge is Tchissoca Celestino Tchinedele, and the prosecution (PGR) is represented by the magistrate, Beatriz Santos.
The trial takes place behind closed doors, taking into account the nature of the crime, as the integrity of a minor is at stake and with limited access to the public, as explained by a court official.
Speaking to the press, the defendant’s lawyer, Ervedoso Tchiangalala, said that as this is the hearing for the production of evidence, it is still premature to advance data on the outcome of the process, so that only at the end will they be able to understand whether the elements to impute the crime to its constituent are gathered.
He hoped that justice would be done, with a view to clarifying the circumstances, both of the defense and of the victim, according to the accusation, so that in the end, everyone could be given what they deserve.
According to article 193 of the Angolan Penal Code in force, the crime in question is punishable with a prison sentence of one to five years and when there is combing, the punishment ranges from three to eight years of imprisonment.
