Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, is meeting in the city of Oyo with his Congolese counterpart, Denis Sassou Nguesso, according to the official page of the Presidency of Angola on the social network Facebook, in a publication published (Thursday).
The Angolan Head of State arrived in the Republic of Congo this Thursday, for political consultations on the situation in Gabon, where a coup d’état took place, carried out by military personnel, in the early hours of Wednesday.
Angola, Congo and Gabon belong to the Central African States subregion. President João Lourenço was designated African Champion of Peace and Reconciliation by the African Union.
In the early hours of Wednesday, a group of soldiers from the Gabonese army announced a coup d’état, on national television, after the release of the results of the general elections in that country.
The announcement was made in a press release read on the “Gabon 24” television channel by military personnel who decided to close the country’s borders.
