Ambassador considers relations between Angola and Guinea-Bissau to be favorable

Africa-Press – Angola. Diplomatic relations between Angola and Guinea-Bissau “are favorable”, despite some obstacles in the agreements for the exploration of bauxite in the deep waters of the Port of Caio (Guinea-Bissau), acknowledged Saturday, the Guinean ambassador to the country , Apolinário Mendes de Carvalho.

According to the diplomat, there were agreements but they were never fulfilled. However, he hopes that they will be fulfilled in the near future.

Without revealing the volume of business between the two countries, Apolinário Mendes said that Guineans are notable in Angola, especially in the areas of commerce and construction.

For his part, the rector of the Lusíada University of Angola, Mário Pinto de Andrade, stated that relations would be better if there were no political constraints in Guinea-Bissau in recent times, in an allusion to the coups d’état that have occurred in this African country.

Speaking as an academic, Mário Pinto de Andrade praised the figure of Amílcar Cabral, “father” of the independence of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, and for his ideals, which promoted the liberation of other countries then colonized by Portugal until 1975.

The two individuals were speakers at the conference on the impact on the liberation struggle of the former Portuguese colonies, promoted by the Embassy of Guinea-Bissau in Angola, in reference to the 50th anniversary of that country’s independence, to be celebrated on the 24th of this month.
