Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, demanded speed in the execution of the work on the Viana General Hospital, which is expected to be completed in December this year.
Under construction since August 2021, in an area of 25 thousand square meters, in the Urban District of Zango, the infrastructure is 82 percent physically completed.
When speaking to the press at the end of the field trip to the works at this unit in Viana and the Hospital de Queimados do Kilamba, in Luanda, João Lourenço stated that he hoped to find the infrastructure at a more advanced stage of execution.
He drew the contractor’s attention to the need to comply with the deadlines defined in the contract.
“We have our inspector who charges us (Angolans are our inspector) and, for this reason, we have to make a point of demanding the same from contractors”, he stated, adding that they should also be concerned about the need for execution of contracts within the agreed deadlines.
Valued at 125 million and 500 thousand euros, the work is being carried out by the construction company Vamed, of Austrian origin.
The hospital unit will have capacity for 356 beds, including 34 cribs, according to data from the Ministry of Health’s Studies and Planning Office, and will be able to employ 1,200 employees, including doctors, nurses, imaging and laboratory technicians.
It includes, among other services, five operating rooms, eight inpatient wards, a centralized diagnostic centre, and the emergency service should have the sectors of obstetrics and gynecology, paediatrics, orthopedics and general medicine.
There will be outpatient consultations in general practice, cardiology, neurology, ENT, ophthalmology, orthopedics/traumatology, gynecology/obstetrics, stomatology, urology, general surgery, anesthesiology and oncology.
The Viana General hospital will also have an endoscopy service, laboratories, imaging, dialysis, operating room and rehabilitation and therapy.
