Africa-Press – Angola. MPLA activists in the municipality of Lucapa, in Lunda Norte, suggested this Monday, more investments in the agricultural sector, recovering production areas in the northeast of the province, with emphasis on Cossa (Cambulo) and Calonda (Luccapa ).

The northeastern region of Lunda Norte was, in the 1980s, one of the great granaries of cereal, vegetable and cattle production and even fed the eastern corridor of the country.

The suggestions were presented during the assembly of activists led by the vice-president of the MPLA, Luisa Damião, as part of the aid and control visit she has been carrying out since Sunday in the province of Lunda Norte, with the aim of evaluating compliance with the party’s political agenda.

During the assembly, activists defended the construction of employment and professional training centers in nine of the ten municipalities, with the implementation of courses that respond to the needs of the employment market.

They encouraged the Executive to mobilize resources to complete the works on the Chitao multipurpose pavilion, the national road 170 (Camaxilo-Lubalo), the Lucapa-Calonda section, the technical health institute and the approval of the organic statutes of the urban districts of Mussungue, Dundo and Chitato.

The activists requested the construction of a maternity ward and blood bank in Lucapa, expansion of justice services, construction of community fields for the massification of sport, a library and the rehabilitation of the employment and professional training center in Lucapa, as well as the implementation of a university center in that district.

The meeting also requested the expansion of the school network, electricity and drinking water.

In response, the vice-president of the MPLA, Luísa Damião, said that the issue linked to agriculture will find an answer in the National Plan for the Promotion of Grain Production (PLANAGRÃO), to be implemented, in a first phase, in the eastern region of the country.

Regarding communication routes, Luísa Damião said that the MPLA, through the Executive, has been prioritizing the rehabilitation of the main roads, with a view to boosting sustainable development.

“All the concerns presented are legitimate and will find answers in the policies that the Executive has been carrying out, with the aim of combating regional asymmetries”, he stressed.

The second day of the visit, Luísa Damião, in addition to the assembly of activists, visited the works of the Lucapa photovoltaic plant, the Chitato multipurpose pavilion and the drainage of the ravines of the Mussungue Centrality, the airport and Kamatundo.

On Tuesday, the third day, the MPLA vice-president’s agenda includes a visit to the works to expand the Luachimo hydroelectric dam and a mass event at the Dundo tennis court.
