Africa-Press – Angola. From this Wednesday, Angola has the first Ring for the practice of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) “Cage Keydje”, certified by the International Federation.

The Combat Ring was set up yesterday at the Kilamba Multipurpose Pavilion, in Luanda, the venue that will host the African Amateur Championship of the sport.

The president of the Angolan MMA Federation, Armando Diogo, said that this was the first professional Keydje in the country, acquired in Dubai.

He mentioned that there are some MMA Combat Rings in certain gyms, but they are not professional and do not have certification from the governing body of the sport in the world.

He added that the objective is to obtain five more Keydje for the North, South, East and Center regions, within the framework of the policy of massification of this combat sport.

This first edition of the event that Angola hosts will be witnessed by the Director of the International MMA Federation for the African continent, Raymond Philips, among other figures from the continent.

According to the program, Thursday will take place the last medical tests, the technical meeting as well as the Ordinary Assembly of the African MMA Confederation (AMMAC).The earthquake that hit the center of Morocco last Friday led to the withdrawal of its team from the African Mixed Martial Arts Championship (MMA), which starts on Thursday, at the Kilamba Multipurpose Pavilion, in Luanda .

The information was provided this Wednesday by the president of the Angolan MMA Federation, Armando Diogo, at the end of an operational meeting of the organizing committee of the continental event.

According to Armando Diogo, before the earthquake that affected around 300 thousand people, including 100 children, the Moroccan federation had confirmed its presence.

He stated that Egypt and Tunisia also announced their withdrawal, out of solidarity, and of the Maghreb countries, only Algeria is coming to the city of Luanda with a selection of seniors.

Côte d’Ivoire, Zambia, Namibia, Mauritius and South Africa (test holder) are already in the country.

Angola was runner-up in the previous edition, held in South Africa, the champion.

Entrance fees to the Kilamba Arena will be free.

The earthquake, which reached a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale and a depth of 18 km, occurred in the Marrakesh region at 11:11 pm on Friday.

It is the most violent earthquake recorded in Morocco in the last 120 years.

The last major event of its kind in the country, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in Al Hoceima, on the Mediterranean coast, killed more than 600 people in 2004.

In 1960, a violent earthquake destroyed Agadir and killed more than 12 thousand people.

The conclave will take place from 2 pm, in one of the hotels in the country’s capital.

Competitions start on Friday. Before that, the opening ceremony takes place at 9 am and then the fights from 10 am to 5 pm.
