Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, defended, this Friday, in Luanda, the joining of synergies between deputies to defend the principles and values of the Democratic State in Angola and solidarity with all peoples.
In a message on the occasion of International Democracy Day, which takes place this Friday, the 15th, Carolina Cerqueira points to democracy as a form of organization of the State and a model for the functioning of sovereign institutions, strong and representative of the popular will, in defense of peace , justice and the progress of nations.
Carolina Cerqueira calls for the exercise of ethical and constructive debates to be preserved and prioritized at parliamentary level, in strict respect for the difference of opinion, equality, inclusion, solidarity and the values that underlie democratic institutions, legitimately elected by the Angolan people.
“May the young generations, civil society and in particular political parties guide their actions in defense of social peace and the strengthening of democracy”, reads the message.
In reference to the date, Carolina Cerqueira congratulated the deputies, citizens and political actors for their contribution to the construction and consolidation of democracy in Angola.
According to the official, the National Assembly (AN), as guardian of the will of the Angolan people, represents the popular will, the commitment that Angolans have established to achieve sustainable development and guarantee the dignity of the human person, with its plural configuration and multi-party the illustration of democracy materialized in the hemicycle.
International Democracy Day is celebrated every September 15th. When establishing the date, the United Nations (UN) used, above all, the intention of bringing reflection on the importance of democracy in member countries.
