Africa-Press – Angola. Citizens residing in the province of Moxico defended the implementation of policies to retain staff in the region, with a view to contributing to the economic and social growth of this district, which this Friday celebrates 106 years of existence.

When addressing the “Policies for attracting and retaining staff”, during a forum called “Pensar Moxico”, as part of the celebration of the province’s 106th anniversary, the specialist in Public Administration, Vadgildo Catenga, said that the massive departure of staff from this region for other parts of the country, this is due to the weak implementation of population retention and attraction policies.

According to the academic, the low salary, the high cost of living and the low investment in the region, characterized by the lack of access roads and attractive areas, are the main reasons that motivate the local population to leave to take up residence in other regions.

From this perspective, citizen Belúcia Tomé, graduated in Educational Psychology, defended the creation of youth employability policies, accompanied by a strong focus on the education and health sectors to attract and retain local staff.

Meanwhile, Jurist Ezequiel Miza advocated the need to create incentive programs for youth, to set up small businesses, in order to allow for the emergence of more companies and services, an opinion corroborated by the governor, Muamboma, traditional authority in the town of Boma , which also calls for the rehabilitation of roads.

The Hotel and Tourism specialist, Manuel Bandeira, reiterated the need to find more appropriate strategies for attracting investments in the “peace industry”, starting with the inventory of all tourist attractions in Municipal Administrations.

After inventorying these points, he said, there is a need for the country’s municipalities to create their respective tourism master plans.

In turn, the provincial governor, Ernesto Muangala, looked back at the gains that the province has made since achieving peace, highlighting investments in the electrical, health and education sectors, actions that, according to the leader, have allowed the province to rise again from the “rubbles of war”.

The oldest province in the Eastern Region of the country and the youngest among those located along the Lobito Corridor (Benguela, Huambo and Bié) was elevated to this category on September 15, 1917, through Decree 3365.

Moxico represents 17 percent of the national territory, larger than the combination of the country’s most populous provinces, namely Luanda, Huíla, Benguela, Huambo, Bié and Cabinda.

Administratively, the province has nine municipalities, namely Alto Zambeze, Bundas, Camanongue, Léua, Luacano, Luau, Luchazes, Cameia and Moxico.

With nine municipalities and 21 communes, the province of Moxico is limited to the north by the province of Lunda Sul and the Republic of Congo, to the east by Zambia, to the south by Cuando-Cubango and to the west by Bié.
