Africa-Press – Angola. The electricity supply coverage rate for the city of Luena, Moxico province, has reduced to 70 percent in the last seven days, due to the drop in production.
The information was passed, this Thursday, in Luena, by the provincial director of the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE), Arnaldo Carlos, in reaction to the constant restrictions that the city and peripheral neighborhoods have experienced in recent times.
According to the person responsible, the city is currently being supplied with 16 Megawatts, recording a deficit of five MW, taking into account the consumption needs.
These restrictions are also associated with the vulnerability of transport cable protection systems against atmospheric discharges, given the rate of vandalization to which they have been subject.
Arnaldo Carlos stated that “efforts” are being made to overcome this situation, with a view to minimizing the constraints that have plagued the registered population.
The city of Luena receives electrical energy from generator sets with an installed capacity of 27.5 MW, as well as from the Tchihumbwe hydroelectric dam, located in the municipality of Dala, province of Lunda Sul, whose power is 12 megawatts.
