Drainage network accelerates degradation of buildings in Lubango

Africa-Press – Angola. The aging of the drainage and water supply network was identified as the main cause of the degradation of buildings in the city of Lubango, by the national director of buildings and Monuments, of the Ministry of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Helder Biala.

The information was released to the press, on the sidelines of the visit by the Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Alberto dos Santos, to the dilapidated buildings in Lubango, namely the buildings of Laureanos, Figurino, Armazém do Porto, next to the TAAG store, Motriluz and Identification, carried out on Wednesday.

He detailed that in these buildings they found that the biggest problem is related to unhealthy conditions, as they have visibly good structures, but have serious problems in the residual drainage and water supply networks.

The situation is worrying, according to the person responsible, as it constitutes a public health problem, because there are open sewage drains that can lead to other risk situations for residents and beyond.

“We will work together with the provincial government, with the engineering laboratory that will also be part of the team, to carry out a technical assessment of the current state of these buildings so that recommendations can be made in the short or medium term” , he stressed.

In turn, the municipal administrator of Lubango, Lisender André, stated that the solution involves combining synergies in residents’ committees, in order to fundamentally improve issues linked to sanitation.

He highlighted the need to develop deeper work with these resident committees that are established and that meet regularly, in order to mainly engage the owners.
