Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and the Dominican Republic signed this Friday, in New York, United States of America (USA), three legal instruments, within the framework of strengthening cooperation.
These are agreements on Economic Cooperation, on Visa Exemption on Diplomatic and Service Passports, as well as on the Diplomatic Academy of the two States.
The agreements were initialed within the scope of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week, which takes place at the UN headquarters, from the 18th to the 22nd of September.
Also this Friday, a legal instrument was signed between Angola and the Republic of Guatemala at the headquarters of the world’s largest political platform (UN), marking the formal beginning of diplomatic relations between the two States.
Speaking to the press, regarding these new legal instruments, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teté Antônio, said that the Dominican Republic is a key country, as it is located in a privileged position (Caribbean) and has a vibrant economy.
According to the government official, who signed the agreements on the Angolan side, it was necessary to diversify cooperation between the two States, in order to offer mutual advantages.
Regarding the agreement with Guatemala, he said that the need to establish diplomatic relations with that country, known for its productive capabilities, was already felt.
According to the Angolan minister, that State has some proven experience in the field of agricultural production, an advantage that can be taken advantage of by Angola.
“Guatemala is a country known for its many productive capabilities in terms of agriculture. I think it has experience to pass on and something to learn from Angola”, he said.
Teté Antônio said, on the other hand, that Angola’s relationship with countries in the Caribbean region is not limited to looking for advantages, but also offering counterparts.
In this regard, he reported that the Republic of Suriname has expressed great interest in cooperating with Angola, especially in the field of oil exploration.
He also reaffirmed Angola’s interest in diversifying its relationship with Latin American countries.
