Africa-Press – Angola. After Portugal and Luanda, the book entitled Kissângua bitterdoce, written by Angolan writer Isabel Ferreira, was launched this Saturday, at the Centro Cultural Oficina do Artista, located in the city of Benguela.
In an interview the writer revealed that the literary work is a poem that portrays various aspects of everyday life, such as the way of life of Angolans, constraints, political contradictions and also love.
According to her, the book began to be written during the Covid-19 pandemic, in which isolation inspired her to collect the necessary elements for its compilation.
“In this first phase, the book, with 205 pages, has 1,500 copies, half of which have already been sold”, stated the writer.
He revealed that it was produced by his own publisher, Kujiza Kuami (my stubbornness, in the national language of Kimbundu), showing some advantages, such as expressions of Angolan cultural characteristics.
“It also motivates me to better publicize it. When the author is not renowned, the book is unlikely to be suggested for research by a university”, he exemplified.
Isabel Ferreira stated that nowadays she sees herself as a producer that interacts with her readers, as well as the universities that study her work, which is why she is known internationally.
Asked about her most impactful books, she pointed out, among others, “The Keeper of Memories”, with ten thousand copies, released in Angola, Canada, the United States of America, Brazil and France.
The writer has already produced ten books, only two of which were published by other publishers.
Isabel Ferreira was born in Luanda, but currently resides in Portugal. During her youth she joined FAPLA, the former armed wing of the MPLA party, as a liberation movement.
Driven by her artistic streak, she joined the musical band FAPLA/POVO, a dance group and also the Colectivo Experimental de Teatro.
