Africa-Press – Angola. The construction of the new António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN), in the municipality of Icolo e Bengo, Luanda province, once again demonstrated the Angolan government’s capacity to execute large-scale projects.
This position was expressed, in Malanje, by some politicians interviewed, considering that in addition to its magnitude, the project represents the Executive’s commitment to materialize the actions it proposes to take, in favor of the country’s socio-economic development.
According to the second secretary of the MPLA Provincial Committee, Nelo de Carvalho, the airport puts the country on the international route, as it will allow more airlines to operate in Angola and thus increase commercial exchanges.
In addition, he highlighted its importance in boosting the national economy, especially in the tourism sector.
In turn, the provincial secretary of the Social Renewal Party (PRS), Balduíno Daniel, stressed that the AIAAN represents an added value for the country, as it will generate jobs for young people.
He considered that due to its modernization, the unit had long been necessary, taking into account that the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport dates back to the colonial era and is out of adjustment with current requirements.
The same vision is shared by the provincial secretary of the National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), Jacinto Dala, stating that the Airport now opened elevates the country’s name across borders, due to the movement it will provide.
As for the name given (António Agostinho Neto), he considered it a fair tribute, taking into account the achievements of the Founder of the Nation.
Inaugurated today, by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, the new Airport, built 40 kilometers from the country’s capital, comes into operation in phases, the first being reserved for cargo services, until February 2024.
The second phase begins with domestic flight operations, followed by international flight operations, starting in June next year.
