Africa-Press – Angola. Angola is closely following current and future challenges, aiming to establish itself as a prestigious nation on the international stage, stated the minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António.

The minister was speaking at the opening of the conference “Angola’s experiences in the OAU/AU and the UN”, held as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence.

On the occasion, he highlighted that peace occupies a central place on the diplomatic agenda of the Angolan State, having mobilized, over the years, intense efforts by diplomats in mediation and conflict resolution processes.

During his speech, the minister paid tribute to the diplomats who have served and continue to serve the country, highlighting former holders of the Foreign Affairs portfolio, including José Eduardo dos Santos, Paulo Teixeira Jorge, Afonso Van-Dúnem Mbinda, Pedro de Castro Van-Dúnem Loy, Venâncio de Moura, João Bernardo de Miranda, Assunção Afonso dos Anjos, Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti and Manuel Domingos Augusto.

According to Téte António, the country’s international trajectory throughout its 50 years of independence is linked to the transformations of the international system and the geopolitical awakening of the African continent.

He explained that, since the period of the liberation struggles, Angolan diplomacy has established itself as an instrument of resistance, sovereignty and international solidarity. Within the Organization of African Unity, Angola stood out as a protagonist in consolidating the freedom and dignity of African peoples, contributing to the end of colonialism and apartheid.

He added that the transition to the African Union coincided with the achievement of lasting peace in the country, a period in which it adapted to new challenges related to economic integration, collective security, and the strategic affirmation of the continent. The minister indicated that, during the meeting, several stages of Angolan diplomacy will be analyzed, with emphasis on the country’s participation in the Organization of African Unity, now the African

Union, and the United Nations.

The conference, which runs until Thursday, brings together experts and academics and aims to promote reflection on the path and challenges of Angolan diplomacy in the current global context.
