Africa-Press – Angola. One hundred and 26 million dollars is the value of new financing from the Global Fund for programs to combat HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, in the provinces of Benguela, Bié and Cuanza Sul, the philanthropic institution announced this Tuesday.
The information was provided by the President of the Global Fund’s National Coordination mechanism, Ana Ruth Luís, at the end of a meeting with the first vice-president of the National Assembly, Américo Counonoca.
According to the person responsible, the financing will guarantee actions to combat HIV, malaria and tuberculosis from July 2024 to July 2027.
He declared that the strategy is that everything linked to malaria, HIV and tuberculosis will be financed entirely by the Fund, without any contribution from the Angolan State.
The president of the National Coordination Mechanism said that the program covers treatment, information, equipment and all the “inputs” to combat the diseases mentioned.
Without specifying data, Ana Ruth Luís made a positive assessment of the actions carried out in the provinces of Cuanza Sul and Benguela, within the scope of financing of 86 million dollars in progress since 2021, scheduled to end next year.
He reported that the fund also supported the program to combat and prevent Covid-19, in Luanda and other provinces in the supply of hospital oxygen.
The senior manager of the Global Fund for Southern Africa and the Middle East, Joshua Galjour, praised the decision to expand the program to the province of Bié.
Joshua Galjour stated that the program’s priorities are a function of national strategic plans defined by governments.
He informed that the approved amount, 126 million, should ensure support for diagnosis, treatment and assistance to people with HIV, malaria and tuberculosis at health establishments and community level.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment shown by local authorities in combating such diseases.
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is an international financial organization that aims to attract and distribute additional resources to prevent and treat the aforementioned pathologies.
The institution was founded on January 22, 2002, in Geneva, Switzerland.
