Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned to Luanda this evening, after participating in COP 28, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he highlighted the commitment to renewable energy, as it represents one of the main pillars of adaptation to climate change .
Upon arrival, the Head of State was received by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Vista, among other individuals.
At the COP 28 World Climate Action Summit, the Angolan President said that the country faces all issues relating to climate change with firmness and commitment.
During his speech, he said that the phenomenon of severe drought in the south of the country and in other parts of the planet shows everyone how important it is to prevent global catastrophes.
Among other diplomatic activities, during his stay in the UAE, he chaired the High-Level Forum on the Great Green Wall of Southern Africa initiative, focusing on mitigating environmental phenomena in the region.
Among other aspects, throughout his statement, João Lourenço considered that the region has great potential to contribute to a sustainable and prosperous future, taking into account its growing young population.
He announced that, under the presidency of Angola, in 2024, SADC will invest in human and financial capital, as a catalyst for the sustainable industrialization of the meeting.
