Africa-Press – Angola. Acts of vandalism on the Moçâmedes Railway (CFM), Namibe province, caused damage estimated at 200 million kwanzas, in the last two years, with the undue removal of copper, iron and aluminum, along of the railway line.
The CFM provincial delegate, Francisco Mário, said that the offenders also removed 200 sermons and 35 meters of optical fiber.
Regarding the train’s activity, the source said that the CFM counted, on average, 8,174 passengers, in the four carriages that operate on the Bibala/Moçâmedes section, in the period from September to December this year.
With the provision of passenger transport services, goods and postal services, during this period, it raised more than three million kwanzas, representing an increase of around 90% compared to the same period of the previous year.
With 54 locomotives and 332 wagons, of which 66 operate on the 900-kilometer route, Francisco Mário highlighted that, to date, the CFM has transported 19 thousand and 272 tons of pig iron, coming from Cuando Cubango.
As a perspective, the person in charge highlighted that the CFM projects the consolidation of the Arrimba freight station, implementation of the DMU’S Namíbe/Bibala and Quilema/Lubango/Poiares circulation, in 2024.
Still next year, the company intends to monitor the progress of the exploration work in the iron mines, to transport the ore from the Jamba, Tchamutete and Cutato branches, as well as to carry out the exclusive right to transport granite blocks via Lubango/Namíbe and vice versa.
Also on the CFM agenda are the construction of the Macuba branch, measuring approximately 5.7 kilometers, to the Sonangol terminal in Cuando Cubango, the recovery and maintenance of the C30 and Aci 1800 locomotives, for ongoing training in the different areas.
