Africa-Press – Angola. The Attorney General’s Office in the province of Bengo received, in 2023, three thousand 865 criminal cases of different nature.
Of this number, 1,513 cases had 2,007 defendants detained, while in another 2,352 cases, 2,868 citizens who were also defendants are free, according to the deputy attorney general of the Republic in Bengo, Carla Patrícia Correia.
In 2023, the PGR in Bengo sent 257 cases with 314 defendants to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, at the Dande District Court, and 206 to the guarantee judge for interrogation.
The deputy prosecutor considered the year difficult and highlighted the legality week, the legal awareness days, the methodological meeting and visits to municipalities as the main achievements of 2023.
He highlighted that the PGR successfully coordinated and led the public presentation of the National Strategy for the Prevention and Repression of Corruption (ENAPREC), a reference instrument in the prevention, detention and repression of corruption and related crime, which aims to reinforce citizens’ trust in public institutions.
In Bengo, the Public Prosecutor’s Office services are represented in the municipalities of Dande, Ambriz, Nambuangongo, Dembos, Bula Atumba and Pango Aluquém.
