Africa-Press – Angola. One thousand and 501 citizens were arrested during the year 2023, by the defense and security bodies in the province of Cunene, for their alleged involvement in two thousand and 80 different crimes.
Compared to 2022, there was an increase of 14 citizens detained and a decrease of 131 crimes. Of the total crimes, 1,528 were solved, obtaining a level of operability of around 73.4 percent.
The information was provided this Thursday, by the Interior delegate and Commander of the National Police in Cunene, António Ribeiro, at the end of the year celebration of the defense and security bodies.
On the occasion, he clarified that of the two thousand and 80 crimes registered, 774 were crimes against people, with emphasis on 33 cases of homicides, 49 of sexual assaults and 358 of offenses to physical integrity.
According to the commissioner, 954 crimes against property were also recorded, of which 682 were thefts from homes, commercial establishments and motorbikes and 179 robberies.
Regarding the fight against livestock theft and theft, he highlighted the record of 154 incidents, with 154 presumed perpetrators detained, where 430 animals of various species were stolen, 239 of which have already been recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
Regarding road accidents, he pointed out the record of 364 accidents, which culminated in the death of 61 people and the injury of 454 others, with material damage not assessed.

With regard to the procedural movement, the delegate highlighted the opening of a thousand and 214 criminal cases, minus a thousand and 44, of which 239 with prisoners and 975 without prisoners.
Regarding procedural instruction, two thousand and 11 cases were concluded, with 384 sent to court, 99 of these with prisoners and 269 without prisoners and one thousand 261 archived.
António Ribeiro highlighted the record of a thousand and 311 inmates who were admitted to the Peu Peu Penitentiary establishment, of which 929 were convicted, 382 in preventive care.
