Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the Social Renewal Party (PRS), Benedito Daniel, formally called, in Luanda, the V Ordinary Congress to take place between the 2nd and 4th of April next year.
According to the party’s general secretary, Rui Malopa, who spoke at a press conference on Thursday, the date was set as a result of several meetings of the Political Council and the National Committee.
The politician also made it known that, according to article 42 of the PRS Statute, the president had to call the meeting three months before it took place.
Rui Malopa reported, however, that Benedito Daniel will run for a second term, as he received motions of support from the secretaries of the country’s 18 provinces. “This fact represents a demonstration of affection and confidence in the person who heads the party today. The provincial secretaries are willing to support him for his second term”, he assured.
Regarding the other competitors, Rui Malopa was peremptory: “I can’t confirm anything. Therefore, Congress is open and, in this case, in the next few moments the secretariat will meet again to approve and also publish the directive, which will establish the parameters that will guide any candidate and any member’s intention to run.”
Regarding the loss of members, the leader highlighted that the PRS not only lost deputies during the years in which Benedito Daniel was at the head of the political formation, but also during the mandate of other leaders.
