Former deputy formalizes candidacy for PRS leader

Africa-Press – Angola. The former deputy to the National Assembly in the 2008-2012 legislature, Sapalo António, formalized, on Sunday, in Luanda, his candidacy for the presidency of the Social Renewal Party (PRS), within the scope of the V Ordinary Congress scheduled for the 2nd, 3rd and April 4th next.

According to Cláudio Ricai, campaign spokesman for economist Sapalo António, the cohesion and union of the party are the “lines of force” of the candidacy, whose purpose is to free the PRS from the inertia in which it finds itself, both at the grassroots and in the top of leadership.

“Our line of strength consists of unity and cohesion, since it is not possible to carry the political message when the organization is without cohesion and unity. The first factor is unity. We need to bring together the party cadres, the active force of the party After this, we can expand the message of federalism”, he emphasized.

Regarding his assessment of the current leadership, led by deputy Benedito Daniel, Sapalo António’s campaign spokesperson stated that it is considered negative, given that the PRS only has one parliamentary representation, whereas, in the past, it had a parliamentary group.

According to Cláudio Ricai, it is enough to take stock of the latest electoral processes, in terms of votes and acceptance, to come to the easy conclusion that the party has experienced decline.

“In 2002, we had a parliamentary group, today the PRS has parliamentary representation. When you lose a parliamentary group, the party loses the ability to create Bills, to be submitted for debate in the National Assembly. When the party does not have a parliamentary group, you failed”, he argued.

In his opinion, the PRS, in 1992, constituted the first parliamentary group composed of six deputies. In 2008, in the second elections, a parliamentary group was once again formed, consisting of eight deputies. In 2022, Cláudio Ricai continued, the PRS suffered a decline, due to the fact that the two deputies are currently integrated with two other FNLA deputies in the mixed parliamentary group, made up of four deputies.

In the process that was submitted yesterday to the Organizing Committee of the V Congress of the PRS, among other documents, a militant card, a pass proving the candidate’s activism for more than 15 years, proof of up-to-date membership fees during the term of office were received. current and completed degree.

Asked about the publicized sanction that prevented Sapalo António from running for office, Cláudio Ricai said that this imbroglio is over, thanks to the campaign advisors of the party’s founder, who, in conjunction with political formation partners, knew how to overcome the situation.
