Africa-Press – Angola. The use of anabolic steroids, psychotropic substances and doping will be the subject of analysis and debate, starting Wednesday (21), in Luanda, in the first scientific days of sports medicine, at the Hospital Training Center for Cardiopulmonary Diseases Dom Alexandre do Birth.

Organized by the National Center for Sports Medicine (CENAMED), the event, which ends on Thursday (22), includes aspects about the multidisciplinary nature of the sector, pre-season cardiac assessment, the importance of sleep for athletes, sports psychology , nutrition, physical training, among other topics.

Under the motto “Sports Medicine in Angola: Past, Present and Future”, according to the director of CENAMED, Stella Cristiano, the meeting will begin with an approach to the History of Sports Medicine in Angola, exploring the challenges faced so far and the prospects for the coming years.

The official opening will be carried out by the new Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, followed by a round table, conferences and free topics on the topic.

The first day will feature a conference on the new challenges of sports medicine, given by a Portuguese speaker. Notably, the conference will be hybrid, allowing for in-person and remote participation, expanding reach to healthcare professionals, sports officials and interested parties.

On the second day, the focus will be on the multidisciplinary nature of sports medicine, with specialists who will discuss topics such as: pre-season cardiac assessment, the importance of sleep for athletes, sports psychology, nutrition, physical training, and considerations about the use of anabolic steroids and psychotropic substances.

Doping will also be part of the approaches. The themes also include the view of the athlete, coach, doctor and physiotherapist on the role of health professionals. The day will also cover sports physiology, sports traumatology and physical rehabilitation, incorporating the latest technologies.

The pre-day courses, which started on Monday, are aimed at health professionals, sports agents and those interested in general, emphasizing the importance of basic life support.

The closing ceremony will highlight the impact of multidisciplinary work on sports performance, presented by a Brazilian speaker. The participation of international experts from Portugal and Brazil, who will also teach courses, highlights CENAMED’s commitment to promoting the constant updating of health professionals in Angola.

Opened on February 11, 2000, by the then Minister of Youth and Sports, Marcos Barrica, CENAMED has a wet treatment room, changing rooms, changing rooms, offices, screening and waiting rooms.

It also has fitness rooms, cardio, assessment area, functional rehabilitation, physiotherapy, space for stretching, flexibility, posturology and biomechanics and exercise physiology laboratories.

Its facilities are located in the Cidadela Sports Complex, providing services to athletes and the public, in general medicine and treatment of injuries specific to the sector.
