Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, reaffirmed this Friday, in Luanda, that the judiciary is required to provide justice that is fair, equitable, swift and serves people, companies and society, with a view to strengthening the rule of law in Angola.
For the Head of State, who was speaking at the opening of the 2024 Judicial Year, this period brings with it challenges, from the oldest and already known, as well as new ones that will require everyone, as a nation, resilience and sagacity to face and overcome them, finding the best and appropriate solutions for the country.
He explained that the Executive, in collaboration with competent structures of the judiciary, is working to implement the judicial system computerization program, which should cover the courts and the Attorney General’s Office to modernize and increase the efficiency and speed in the actions of these bodies..
The computerization of the courts, he said, will enable the magistrate to carry out acts at any time and from any location, being able to access the process remotely, highlighting that, if well implemented, it will be another relevant contribution to overcoming slowness procedural, observed at all levels of justice in the country.
According to the Statesman, the Executive has a permanent commitment to continue investing in infrastructure and improving the material working conditions of justice bodies.
Fight against corruption
For João Lourenço, Angola achieved good and unequivocal results in the fight against corruption and as a direct corollary of this program, the seizure and recovery of properties were carried out in which several public services were installed that were operating in degraded or unworthy facilities, therefore For example, the various courts are now better equipped.
He argued that the fight against corruption must be done fairly and in an objective, considered and independent manner and deserve special attention from judicial bodies, without neglecting other crimes that threaten human life and the physical integrity of people.
He mentioned that the courts are the last resort to ensure that justice is done in each specific situation, and everyone must be guaranteed the fundamental right to a fair and equitable trial, hence there should be no well-founded suspicions regarding the ethics and suitability of the courts. , much less under the conduct of magistrates in their duties.
Alert
He called on justice bodies to be more firm and intolerant in the fight against drug and fuel trafficking, illegal exploitation of precious minerals, known as mining, and environmental crimes such as the indiscriminate felling of forests and timber smuggling, poaching and smuggling. of tusks and skins of protected animals.
He added that the vandalization of public and private assets must deserve the strongest condemnation and repulsion from the entire society and vigorous action from justice bodies.
“The buyers of goods that are the product of vandalization are those who encourage this type of crime and, as such, are responsible for this criminal phenomenon that concerns us all”, he recalled.
According to João Lourenço, combating crime in general is everyone’s responsibility, the family in the first place, the school, the Church, but where it is not possible to educate the citizen and prevent the commission of crime, the justice bodies are called upon to intervene to fulfill its role of re-educating and protecting society.
