Africa-Press – Angola. The National Statistics Institute (INE) has completed 98 percent of the cartographic updating process, reaching 15 of the country’s 18 provinces, the institution’s deputy general director, Amália da Silva, reported this Sunday.

The person in charge provided this information at the end of the training seminar for 33 technical assistants from the 18 provinces, on the process of collecting census information, as part of the preparation of the 2024 General Population and Housing Census, scheduled to begin on July 19th.

On the occasion, he said that to complete the country’s cartographic update, which began in the first quarter of this year, only the provinces of Benguela, Cunene and Luanda are missing, whose characterization requires a lot of responsibility and commitment from the teams involved.

He said that the preparatory and logistical conditions are assured, at this point several methodological training actions will take place, of which the provincial technical assistants are the first, followed by the municipal, communal and census takers, in last place.

Amália da Silva considered that it is essential that all those involved in the census are properly trained, depending on each area of activity, to achieve the success of the census activity in the country, unlike 2014, which will be more digital and will rely on awareness and mobilization of the population, in addition to the involvement of the media and social networks.

Likewise, he made it known that in the coming days, the province of Huambo will also host the formation of provincial, municipal and communal technical groups, which will take care of training all those involved in the process of functional organization and logistical distribution of teams in the ground.

As for census takers, Amália da Silva said that the training will take place 15 days before the start of the census process, under the motto “Census 2024 Together we count for Angola.

She explained that the training process, always accompanied by supervision from central and national trainers, began with the provincial technical assistants, who in turn, will train the municipal ones and the latter the communal ones, culminating, in this way, with the census takers.

For the 2024 Census, he ensured that 92 thousand 801 census sections are planned, each corresponding to an average of 100 neighborhoods or villages, which are expected to have 67 thousand census agents who will have the support of the Defense and Security Bodies, for better coverage, above all, in remote and difficult-to-access areas.

For his part, the vice-governor for Technical and Infrastructure services in the province of Huambo, Elmano Francisco, called on the trainees to be more committed to naming their knowledge, taking into account the objectives of the country’s census process, 10 years later.

He recalled that the success of the census process largely depends on the investment in the training of those involved in this system that will assess the population and the quality of housing in the country, which will help the government to better define public investment policies.

Representing the other technical assistants, Domingos André, from the province of Lunda Norte, said they were prepared to spread knowledge, aimed at meeting this challenge, aimed at the country’s development.

For 15 days, the technical assistants covered, among others, topics on general notions of the census, administration and finances, current expenses, logistics and secretariat, mobilization and publicity, logistics and operations, code of conduct, analysis and dissemination, coverage survey and interview techniques.

The 2024 General Population and Housing Census will be the third in the country’s history, the first being carried out in 1970, five years before National Independence, proclaimed on November 11, 1975, while the second took place in 2014.
