Writer Pedro Kamorroto Debuts with “A Jornada Dos Mortos”

Africa-Press – Angola. Columnist Pedro Kamorroto launched his first book, entitled “A Jornada dos Mortos” (The Journey of the Dead, lit. in English), at the Luanda Digital Library on Friday (30), during a ceremony witnessed by literature lovers, academics and distinguished guests.

A short story genre, the book was published by Kapa Edições and has an initial print run of 100 copies.

The 107-page manual is divided into 15 short stories, in which the author portrays the duality between life and death.

In an interview, Pedro Kamorroto said that the “death” he writes about in this first book of his is not only related to the physical or the soul, but also the result of inertia, emptiness, lack of sensitivity, perspective and solidarity that prevails nowadays.

He mentions that in his chronicles and short stories, published in the Jornal de Angola daily newspaper, he always explored the tragic and fragile side of life, which is why he established this correlation between life and death, which is, in fact, one of the great themes of universal literature.

“Birth is a type of death, but in reverse,” he explained.

Pedro Kamorroto, whose real name is Pedro Nascimento Francisco, is a resident columnist for the Jornal de Angola, where he writes chronicles and short stories.

He published the short story “Só Lene ou Personificação da Espera” in Gazeta – Lavra e Oficina, a magazine of the Angolan Writers’ Union, and other texts on various online platforms.

He participated in the anthologies and collections “Sementes da Língua”, “Escritos de Quarentena”, “Crónicas de Arruaça no País das Maravilhas”, “Trilha dos Inadaptados”, “A Metamorfose” and “Tanto Mar Entre Nós”.
