Africa-Press – Angola. Forty-six customs infractions, 17 more compared to the previous period, were registered in the last six months in the province of Benguela, by the Tax Police.
The information was provided by the Benguela provincial commander of the National Police, Commissioner Aristófanes dos Santos, during the event commemorating the 28th anniversary of this body of the corporation.
According to the commissioner, the offenses recorded were 42 cases of violations of maritime and fishing regulations, four tax/tax liens, one case of smuggling of goods and one crime of counterfeiting and breaking brands and seals.
The commander reported that these infractions resulted in the opening of 46 cases, 13 of which were sent to the captaincy, 29 to fisheries and four to the Customs Delegation of Porto do Lobito, to hold those involved administratively responsible.
Aristófanes dos Santos said the results achieved were satisfactory, which demonstrates the technical knowledge of customs and police matters of the staff, which has enabled the execution of actions, measures and tasks assigned to the fiscal unit with increased levels of discipline, awareness and patriotism.
The commander reminded those present that the date is celebrated in a context in which there is an upsurge in the country’s economic dynamics and, particularly, in the province of Benguela, looking at the implementation of the Corredor do Lobito project, which involves the extension of the railway network.
He said that the certification process for Catumbela International Airport, as well as the construction of the Lobito Refinery, will bring an increase in economic activity, which will imply the adoption of related customs tax measures.
Accordingly, he added, it will be necessary to adapt the operational and technical capacity of the unit with an increase in forces and resources, as well as the training of personnel in matters of customs inspection, oil storage, maritime inspection and protection, diving, foreign languages and management of oil terminals, with a view to responding to current demands.
However, he mentioned that the activity of the Customs Tax Police is not just limited to prevention, investigation, discovery and reprimand of customs tax infractions, but that it also contributes to actions to maintain order, security and public tranquility.
He recognized, on the other hand, the commitment of the Tax Police personnel over these 28 years, as, despite various difficulties, they spare no effort in carrying out their duties.
The Customs Fiscal Police is a body of the National Police of Angola, created by virtue of joint Executive Decree 111/99 of 17 December between the Ministries of Finance and the Interior, aiming to standardize the methods and procedures for inspection, control, surveillance and the monitoring of goods subject to customs action.
The 28th anniversary takes place under the motto “With the continuous technical and professional excellence of the Customs Tax Police staff, let us strengthen tax inspection”, within the framework of expanding the AGT tax base, contributing to the collection of revenue for the General Budget of State.
