Africa-Press – Angola. UNITA deputy, Carlos Xavier, appealed, in this city, to citizens to collaborate with the agents who will be involved in the General Population and Housing Census process, which starts on the 19th of July next, in the country, to reach of the results expected by the Executive.
According to the parliamentarian, collaboration involves families responding truthfully and accurately to the questions that will be asked by the inquirers, whose answers will be included in a country database.
Speaking about the importance of the Census, the politician stated that this participation constitutes an act of citizenship, in addition to helping the government to understand the difficulties of Angolans and define, especially projects linked to the construction of various infrastructures and other benefits.
He highlighted that the Census has a diagnostic perspective that the Executive carries out to get an idea of the number of people and existing residences, live births registered per day in the country, number of homeless people, among other aspects, which serve as a basis for creating of projects aimed at solving problems.
According to Carlos Xavier, in order to have good governance, it is necessary to know how many inhabitants the country has, to allow the government to outline lines of action, programs and decision-making, as well as stipulate the General State Budget (OGE ) each year, according to the reality of each region.
In the same vein, the governor of the Carreira de Tiro neighborhood, João Zumbuca, reiterates the need for citizens to open their doors to census takers, under penalty of compromising the success and integrity of the process.
For this reason, he expressed the continued awareness of communities, for the good reception of census agents, hoping that the census in question will actually contribute to reducing asymmetries and improving the quality of life of Angolans.
Meanwhile, the coordinator of the Association of Motorcyclists and Transporters of Angola (AMOTRANG), João Damião Miguel Tchimbuta, said that members of the association have already been mobilized to participate in the Census and disseminate the information in other social circles.
In the 2014 process, 25 million 789 thousand and 24 inhabitants had been registered in the country, of which 12 million 499 thousand and 41 were male (48% of the total resident population) and 13 million 289 thousand and 983 were female (52% of the total resident population).
In Malanje, 986 thousand and 363 inhabitants were recorded, of which 479 thousand and 788 were male and 506 thousand and 575 were female.
