Africa-Press – Angola. Futebol Clube Bravos do Maquis defeated SuperSport United this Wednesday, 2-1, in the fourth friendly match held at the Megawastt Stadium, in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa, as part of the internship program aimed at the new football season.
The “Brave 11” entered the match listless, facing an excited opponent who was eager to secure another victory in the preparation phase. South Africans SuperSport United took advantage of the Angolan team’s nervousness and took the first minutes of the contest by storm.
With the Pretoria team in the lead, the opening goal was not long in coming. Before half-time, SuperSport opened the scoring and put the Maquisardes at a disadvantage. Mário Soares started the match with a team that, at first glance, could be assumed to be the main one, but the automatic mechanisms did not work as expected by the Angolan coach.
In the restart, new pieces were added to the Moxico team. The national coach made several substitutions, the 24 players present at the training camp played a total of minutes and in the first 15 minutes of the second half, central defender Ruben took full advantage of a foul in the area and scored the equalizer with a penalty kick.
With motivation levels high, the blue and whites went in search of the second goal of the match. Once again, Ruben, called upon to convert the penalty, did not compromise the group’s confidence and shot accurately for his brace and the second for the team from Eastern Angola.
After 90 minutes plus added time, the advantageous result for the maquisardes remained unchanged and they achieved their first victory in the pre-season training camp in Johannesburg, after the defeats conceded in the three previous matches, played against Marumo Gallatis FC (1-0), Sekhukhune United (1-0) and (2-3) against Orlando Pirates.
At the end of the meeting, Almiro Lobo, Mário Soares’ assistant, considered it to be a good rehearsal.
“It was a very good game and it was in line with what was planned. The result is not in question, but rather the results obtained with this preparation. There is growth in the team and improvements can be seen in the aspects that we describe as important and I believe that after this training camp, our team will be able to reach another level.”
Macaiabo, a Maquisarde athlete, highlighted the growth in the quality of the group, with the preparatory work that has been carried out.
“In today’s game (yesterday), the team had a positive performance, given that at the beginning we showed some physical difficulties, but we have been working to overcome these deficiencies and our commitment is to improve even more and present other positive results. I have enjoyed the opponents and we, the athletes, live from experiences and each match has its story. I don’t promise much to the fans, but I guarantee work so that I and our club can achieve satisfactory results”, he revealed.
Bravos do Maquis will be back in action on August 5th, when they face Kaiser Chiefs in another friendly match, aiming to prepare for the new sports season, which for the Moxico team starts between the 16th and 18th of next month, with the first leg of the preliminary round for access to the group stage of the Confederation Cup, against Coast Union FC from Tanzania.
